Summary: This hour-long program is divided into eight chapters: Abnormally Thin, Cultural Pressures, The Search for Answers, Treatment, The Ballet World, Running on Empty, Bulimia Nervosa and Road to Recovery. In this program, it talks about 'Eating Disorder' in the dance world and fashion world, and it is very common. A ballerina must have more than grace and flawless technique to be successful. 'Dancer thin' is not like thin on the street, which is bascially on anorexic weight. A ballerina said, " Everybody wants to know the secret to be thin, because that is success, that's love, that's power, that's glory, that's crock." The dancers' world is so stunned. Then the program talks about that anorexia has increased by 36 percent every five years since 1950s, and at least 8 million people suffer from it, most vulnerable age group is 15-24 years old women. Eating disorders are more common in women than men, but men are still afflicted. At the end of this program, it shows at the recovery women profiled in the program who had been afflicted with an eating disorder.
Critical: This program originally broadcast on December 12,2000. The director Dr. Craig Johnson used many examples in it. He intervewed so many people, such as dancer, models, doctors and so on. This program really make me feel very surprise that three out of every 100 women develop anorexia or bulimia. I got a lot information from that program, and it is really useful for my research paper.
